Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are often referred to as partial crowns. Inlays and onlays are needed when there is too little tooth structure remaining to support a direct restoration like a white or silver filling. The decayed tooth structure and old restorations are removed during the first appointment. A mold or digital scan of the tooth is then made and sent to a dental laboratory. A porcelain or gold restoration is made by a laboratory in 2-3 weeks time. A temporary inlay or onlay will be placed on the tooth for that time. During your next visit the new restoration will be cemented into place.
